The people who believe him will see the correlation between the line up of the Jets staff during the punt return. The author of the article implies the act was planned. This causes the reader to immediately read the article, and assume there was more to the incident. The people who believe it will use this article as a reference and find more evidence to support the theory.

Lebron James and Cliff Lee
http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/blog/big_league_stew/post/Why-we-view-the-Cliff-Lee-and-LeBron-James-decis?urn=mlb-295980
Both athletes have left their teams. Why has Cliff Lee not received as much backlash as Lebron? Lebron presented his decision in a broadcast premiere, but he did it to be with a team that has better starters. The Cavaliers were knocked out of the playoffs, which is what ultimately influenced his decision. Cliff Lee's former team the Rangers made the World Series. The two athlete were adored by their fans as difference makers. Why has Lebron taken more criticism than Cliff Lee?

Airport scanners
http://www.juancountry.com/new-airport-scanners-to-see-literally-everything/
These scanners protect people from bringing weapons on board. The cost of this safety is an invasion of privacy.
The reason for these new measures plays on the emotion of overall safety. The safety concern justifies the new tactics and redefines a person's safety. These images can be hacked, and can damage a person's reputation. Is the cost of flying to high?
Since airport security is now allowed to search people at random people have been very upset with the new security measures. I had a friend who was selected to be searched. He told me he felt violated, because the search conducted was very thorough. If you are picked to be searched it is not a light pat down.

Dreamworlds 3
Dreamworlds 3
The narrator of the documentary Dreamworlds 3 claims women are portrayed as sexual
objects. The narrator has clipped together various music video images and explains them
throughout the video. The film shows how women are viewed as a form of currency based off
their body, and willingness to serve a man by playing on their fantasies. The film then makes a
connection with tragic real world incidents, which were influenced by music videos. The narrator
talks in a monotone voice and the music is very slow and dark. A contrast to the upbeat and wild
tempo from the original music videos presented in the film. The scenes from the music videos
are taken out of context to fit an eerie theme. This is a contrast of how the scenes depict the
women in a negative light instead, of a positive one.
The narrator makes the claim that music videos define feminism for women to be
displayed a pornographic and submissive form. The presentation of a female is to perform for the male gaze. Women outnumber men and are desperate to receive sexual pleasure from men. They are dependent on men, because they have a very high sexual appetite and must constantly be pleased. Multiple women surround the artists in music videos, to show what women find attractive in a man. Females take on the role to perform to the male’s pornographic imagination.
Women put on costumes to please men some of them may reflect a women’s profession
cheerleader or teacher playing to a male fantasy. The narrator uses Jewel’s music video Intuition as an example to show how Jewel had to be viewed in a pornographic type of role, in order to be successful. Then, Mariah Carey is also an example of an artist, who never had to show off her body in music videos to be successful, but did eventually in order to maintain her career. These two artists had to be shown in a pornographic image sexually dependent on men, conforming to pornographic image in order to continue their careers.
There are camera techniques, which defines how women should be viewed. The camera
techniques imply, how women look at themselves the way men do. The women invite the men to
look at them in a desirable way, based on their bodies and submissiveness. Women appreciate
the attention, because they invite the viewer to look at their bodies in various poses. The camera
pans the women fragmenting their body parts, taking focus away from the women as an individual. Instead, they are viewed as objects ready to present their bodies on camera. An example of this is the popular video Girls Gone Wild, where women show off their private body
parts in front of a camera in a public place. The camera plays many roles according to the
narrator of the documentary, by suggesting it is normal to look at women according to the
camera angles. The timing of the narration of the Girls Gone Wild film distorts the perception of
the time it takes for women to give the male a form of sexual satisfaction.
The narrator also claims music videos define masculinity, giving males a sense of false
entitlement to act on their desires. Men should view their masculinity as a form of control.
Music videos tell the story of women shaking off a man’s advances as a form of arousal. The
female will eventually give in as long as the men remain aggressive. Music videos often show
men treating women poorly, by making the claim women want to be dominated. During a Super
Bowl performance with Janet Jackson and Justin Timberlake, Janet is viewed a female being
aroused by Justin’s advances. Janet uses various tactics to avoid Justin’s advances, until the end of the song where allows him to his way with her by taking her top off. The incident in New
York during the Puerto Rican Pride celebration involved multiple innocent women who were
grabbed by various men, talked to sexually and had alcohol poured on them. The incident was
very horrendous, and the narrator shows how music video images played a role to justify those
men’s actions.
The documentary Dreamworlds 3 makes the connection on how music videos influence,
the way men view women in the real world. The narrator changes the tone of the average music
video, and shows these images in a negative view by changing the music. Then, the narrator
explains various techniques as to how women are depicted in a man’s fantasy world. This
justifies specific incidences in the real world, where the music video fantasy had influenced men,
to commit outrageous acts of violence towards innocent women.
Boondocks Perspective
Boondocks Perspective
The Boondocks is an animated series, which intends to bring awareness to social or
political issues in a comic frame. The setting, and how the characters react to issues regarding the law, parenting, self hatred, and capitalism, will be examined with Kenneth Burke’s perspective of incongruity through the comic frame. The Boondocks makes fun of both sides of the issues, and then offers a solution to the problem. The show is very crude and obscene when presenting the issue, but the statements and actions of the characters are taken from popular culture. The Boondocks goes out of its way to present the views of people in an over the top manner.
The setting is in Woodcrest which happens to be a predominantly white neighborhood.
There is no back story as to why the Freeman’s have moved to Woodcrest from Chicago. The
only thing the audience knows is that Ed Wuncler approved the loan for the home. The setting
deals with credit approval between black home owners and white bank owners. In the first
episode The Garden Party, Robert has to meet with Ed Wuncler in regards to the loan on his
home. Robert is scared that Ed Wuncler might find away to keep him from owning his home. So
Robert thinks the only way he can save his home is by offering Ed Wuncler cheese. The tragedy
is that people are denied home loans based on their lifestyle and not ability to pay back the loan.
The comedy is that Robert was able to find a common ground with Ed Wuncler with his
stereotypical view of white people liking cheese. Therefore, Robert is able to save his home
because of his stereotypical view.
The Boondocks uses present day examples to show flaws in the law. Then, it also shows
how the race card is abused by people who are guilty of their crimes. An example would be The
Trial of R. Kelly episode where the singer is charged with having sex with a minor. The
supporters of R. Kelly protest for his freedom because they love his music. They believe he did
not commit the crime of urinating on a girl, and if he did she just happened to be in the way.
Riley is a supporter of R. Kelly and does not want to see him guilty of the crime, because he
wants R. Kelly to produce another album. The evidence is heavily stacked against R. Kelly
because in the video it clearly shows that he has committed the crime. R. Kelly is talking on the
phone in the video verifying his information such as his social security number. The defense
attorney of R. Kelly attacks the prosecutor Tom Dubois with a racial attack telling the jurors he
has a white wife. Huey tries to reason with the court claiming that people are falsely imprisoned
for crimes they did not commit. R. Kelly should be counseled instead of being allowed to roam
free among the public. His statement is interrupted by his brother Riley who tells him to sit
down, and his statement is not remembered by the jury. The result is that R. Kelly wins the case
because of Tom’s wife, and his singing abilities when he performs for the court. The tragedy in
this situation is that person can get away with having sex with a child. The comedy in this
situation is that people, will allow a person to get away with a crime based on irrelevant
statements against the prosecution, and a performance mockery of the court.
In the episode A Date with the Health Inspector the character Tom Dubois is falsely
accused of murder. This episode shows how an innocent person can be convicted of a crime
based on the color of their skin. Tom is pressured by the police to admit he killed someone. The
police promise him that he will not go to jail, to face his fear of anal rape. The offer is very
enticing to Tom and he almost signs the confession document. Until the real killer is found hours
later and Tom is allowed to go free. The tragic part of the episode is that people are accused of
crimes they did not commit on a daily basis. They are tricked into signing confessions, because
they are offered false promises of freedom. The comedy part of the episode is that Tom is a
district attorney that almost falls for the deal, until the real killer is found. Tom’s fear of anal
rape is a phobia which is unusual for a law abiding citizen. Tom’s character is the symbol of the
Uncle Tom character, who is submissive to white people and is referred to as a sellout among the black community.
Another part in the episode A Date with the Health Inspector the characters Ed Wuncler
the II and Gin Rummy are asked to look for the real killer to help free Tom Dubois. They end up
in a gun fight at a gas station owned by Middle Eastern people, because they were trying to steal beer from them. After the gun fight the Middle Eastern people are arrested an accused of
terrorism making Ed and Gin national heroes. While it is clear that they were trying to steal the
beer from the store owners. The tragic part of the episode is fact many Middle Eastern people are accused of terrorism. Some people are innocent but still face consequences due to false
accusations. The comedy part of the episode is the ignorance of people, who use patriotism as a defense for committing a crime. The Boondocks clearly makes fun patriotism by calling it a form of racism, because when Ed and Gin are applauded for their efforts. They are seen by the crowd loading the alcohol in the trunk of their car.
In the episode Smoking with Cigarettes this episode covers the incident with Lamilton
Deshawn who is clearly guilty causing havoc with his grandmother’s SUV. He steals the SUV
and causes a major accident. When a reporter asks him what his punishment should be he says
“no television for a week.” This incident occurred and those were his exact words on the
situation. Throughout the episode he continues to cause havoc without a parental figure in site.
The tragic part of the episode is that Lamilton Deshawn’s punishment did not fit the crime.
Children without parents are most likely to commit crimes like this one. The comedy part of the
episode is that a parent was irresponsible in letting their child steal their vehicle for a joy ride.
The episode makes fun of parents who do not discipline their children properly. The stereotype
of black families is that they discipline their children severely by beating them with a belt.
The Uncle Ruckus character is an example of an early black faced Minstrel character.
According to Roland Laird these early minstrel characters were stereotypical views of white
actors playing black characters in blackface,”… minstrel show with its primary themes being
depictions of enslaved blacks being happy and contented with their lot in life, became a popular
way to maintain the status quo in the minds of many Americans.” (Laird 2010) Uncle Ruckus
displays these characteristics with his over the top racial slurs of black people in America.
Kenneth Burke would view Uncle Ruckus as a juxtaposition of a tragic time, and the present
time of acceptance. The Uncle Ruckus character was once used to entertain a white audience
displaying the ignorance of black people. Now, the character is used to entertain a diverse
audience with his over the top actions. He is an example of a self hate type of figure.
In the episode The Passion of Reverend Ruckus Uncle Ruckus has an epiphany with
Ronald Reagan that if he starts a religion that would allow people to dislike black people his
dreams would come true. The Ronald Reagan figure transforms Uncle Ruckus into a white man,
but this white man is still the fat and wide eyed individual. Nothing has changed except his color.
When Uncle Ruckus is preaching his new religion by telling white people, they will enter heaven
and if black people hate themselves for being black then they will enter the same heaven. Ruckus is struck with lightening during his national televised sermon for preaching his gospel and loses his followers. The tragic part of the episode is the use of religion to promote the self hatred of black people. The comedy part of the episode is Uncle Ruckus’s unintelligible method of spreading his gospel of self hate. He ends up asking the crowd random stereotypical questions of their own experiences in regards to black people.
In the episode The Itis, Granddad opens up a soul food restaurant. The restaurant fails due to lawsuits over the food causing health problems. Granddad goes into business because Ed Wuncler urges him to do so. Ed Wuncler’s intentions were not for Granddad Freeman to be
successful, but for his own capital gain. “According to Burke, society entered the stage of naive
capitalism when "in the Protestant countries, the atomistic disintegrative tendencies that go with
the breaking of a frame made eventually for business individualism” (Levasseur 93) Granddad
was naive to see Ed Wuncler’s true intentions of making the neighborhood bad so the value of
property would decrease. Then, Ed Wuncler could buy the property and build his own restaurant
there. The tragic parts of the episode are the lawsuits associated with the food industry, and the
plot to devalue property for capital gain. Ed Wuncler clearly exploited Granddad Freeman by
allowing him to open up the restaurant to cause the high crime rate around the neighborhood
with his food. The comedy part of the episode is the effects of Granddad Freeman’s food causing people to fall asleep.
In the episode The Fundraiser Riley comes up with a scheme to sell candy for a false
charity. He employs many people for the fundraiser, and is very successful until a rival group
muscles in on him with machine guns. Riley gets shot while wearing bulletproof vest, and does
not walk away with any money. His intentions were to make money for himself regardless of the
dangers that came with the money. He does not see the risk is not worth the money, because the risk for the money is his life. There are two tragic parts in the episode which are the efforts of
parents helping their children with fundraisers, and the desire for young people to get rich
through a violent means. The parents who help their children with fundraisers put their jobs at
risk only to help the candy companies get rich. Young people are often caught up in gangster
movies and do not see the real danger in earning money that way. The comedy part of the
episode is the fact they turned innocent candy bar selling into a gangster theme. Jasmine’s
innocence and her being naïve prevents Riley from walking away with the money, because all
through the episode she assumes Riley is selling the candy for a charity.
The Boondocks represents more than comedy, because of the many messages it conveys to the viewer. “In the context of Burke’s critical model, employed incongruities serve to make The Boondocks less an idle source of “mindless” entertainment than an active, and effective, vehicle for individual perspective making.” (O’Grady 2010) The show brings to light the issues of loan borrowing for homes, law, parenting, self hatred and capitalism. The Boondocks presentsthese issues in a comedic format making fun of public figures, who have said of done the things in the episodes. The show encourages individual thinking so the viewer will have their own perspective of the issues presented to them. The show captures the viewer with the animation style and comedy. Then, leaves the viewer with a lesson relating to the issues they may be exposed to in present time.
Ghost in the Shell
Ghost in the Shell
Ghost in the Shell seems to provide an accurate example of Haraway’s theory of the non-
gendered being. Haraway believes humans are given roles based on their gender. She claims
characteristics are given based on gender identify what makes the person male or female.
Haraway claims based on society’s view of women are in the form of a cyborg. Certain forms of
technology are specifically catered to males and females. If people were not associated with
characteristics based on gender, then their thought process would most likely be different from
the norm. The natural differences between male and female are in mostly in the body and
reproduction.
In Ghost in the Shell the main character is Kusunagi a cyborg with a human body and an
an independent thought process. The body itself is a female shell, while the brain in the body is
unknown. Kusunagi displays dominant feminine and masculine traits throughout the film.
Wearing female clothing and is treated like a female by its peers. Chief Aramaki refers to
Kunsagani’s behavior as mood swings. Batou tends to look after Kunsanagi’s well being a lot
more even though Togosa is the weaker member of the group. Kunsanagi is more aggressive
than its male co-workers, when chasing down criminals. A trait that is not feminine because
society deems females to be more passive. Kusanagi questions life and existence trying to find
answers to decipher, what actually makes it a human. The only answer Kunsanagi can come up
with is how the shell itself treated.
Kunsanagi interprets issues more logically without emotion, looking for the most
effective way to complete tasks, instead of by preference and comfort. Even though Kunsanagi
solves issues with logical thinking, the shell refuses to acknowledge methods based off of
comfort and preference. An example of this is when Kunsanagi tells, Togosa to use a certain type
of gun, when pursuing the garbage men. It still understands the point of view of preference and
comfort. Kunsanagi breaks down existence physically and mentally, but struggles to find
identity within itself.
The female shell appeals more to Kunsagani, because it relies more on speed and agility.
Kunsanagi has no regard for shame, because the shell walks around naked. The shell is given a
cloaking device which allows the body to disappear when nude. The male characters possess the
same cloaking technology, but can disappear with their clothes on. The irony of Kunsanagi’s
cloaking technology is, the shell disappears while nude. The female body is used as a tool that is
meant to be seen. Kunsanagi’s body transforms into a much larger and muscular body showing a
physical masculine quality temporarily, when trying to tear apart the tank.
2501 is also an unknown being in regards to sex. It claims humans have the option to die,
and what makes a person human are their memories. 2501 participates in a sexual activity with
Kunsanagi. Then, 2501 dies during the process or is released into the system. Kunsanagi carries
the offspring, and is given a new shell in the form of a young girl. The female shell serves the
functions of the female, while the mind still maintain unemotional logical thought process.

This gun allows the shooter to look around corners and shoot enemies without putting their own lives in dangers. The corner shot is a cyborg extension to the human body. The gun changes gun battles because the user leads more with their gun. The ability to peak around corners enhances eyesight and is also an extension of the arms giving it that extra reach around the corner.Guns are becoming more relied upon for the safety of the user, instead of the user having to rely on tactics that put them in the line of fire.

The value of black minstrel toys
http://www.prices4antiques.com/toys/wind-up/Wind-Up-Marx-Spic-Coon-Drummer-Black-Minstrel-Lithographed-Tin-D9784464.htm
The perception of black minstrel toys is apart of a tragic point in history. Do people collect the toys to fulfill their racial desires? Are there people that want people to remember a time when slavery and racism was an industry? These toys are seen in auctions and often fetch a high value. At one point the toys allowed children to accept racism. Why are collectors so passionate on completing their collections.

The term book google shows how media has effected overall research. Books are now a secondary source when people are researching information. It's funny how a single search engine contains the same information as books would. The only thing that effects internet research is a technological issue. The validity of information on the internet is supposedly the same as a book.
Racist videogames

In class we learned about video games used for the military. The games teaches people how to effectively kill and shows the image how exciting the military can be. The game is called Ethnic Cleansing used to recruit people of Aryan descent in the neo nazi regime. This game is made to make people feel comfortable with killing people of different races. The enemies are stereotypically violent. After the player completes the game they have a new found confidence to actually kill other people.

Debunking the enemy
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IX5oxxv9Q1E&feature=related
During war time people despise the enemy at all cost, based on generalizations. The main focus of this entry is at the beginning of the video. The people who agree with the clerk associate the woman's attire with terrorism. They immediately separate her from being an American, because of her beliefs and clothing. They justify their behavior because of war. If the person looks like the enemy then they are the enemy according to the supporters of clerk. They have a set view of women who wear that type of clothing, and feel the need to distance themselves from them.

The real stars of 21
http://www.topsocialite.com/hollywood-feels-the-need-to-turn-asian-mit-genuises-into-pretty-white-people/
The story is amazing about a group of MIT students beating the system of blackjack in Las Vegas. Hollywood chose to change the name of the characters as well as their nationalities taking away a major part of the story. The image of asian people in the movie are that they are non innovative and cheap stealing from the casinos. They movie degrades asian people buy stealing from them, and then only showing the negative aspects of them throughout the movie. Also, brings up the issue as to why the asian actors chose to take those parts in the film. When they could of been the stars themselves.

This is a very creative song as they autotune the voice along with a beat. Autotune news makes the claim that anything can be catchy and creative with production behind it. This video is the perfect example showing how a simple interview can be made into a successful itunes song without the actual star having talent. The piano scene is copy from The Hangover movie, remaking into a completely different sounding song.

Then, mentions someone in Japan rapping to to the top40 songs as it being the worlds musical preference of hiphop. The article also mentions the game may not sell due to other karaoke games, and making the statement that hiphop in videogames is not a good investment.

This is a nice short breakdown as to what it is along with examples. Some of the examples presented in the site are illegal because they vandalize property. The stop sign and the person laying on the ground are not as severe as far as legal matters. They do their parts bringing awareness nonchalantly.

Time Zone

"PiL managed to endure throughout the entirety of the 1980s -- although, after a second live album Live in Tokyo (1983) and a fourth studio effort This Is What You Want, This Is What You Get (1984), the only original member to still remain would be Lydon, his support musicians changing between nearly every successive release. The same year as the latter release, Lydon recorded World Destruction, a groundbreaking collaboration with hip-hop performer Afrika Bambaataa issued under the name Time Zone. As the decade progressed, PiL's sound developed along similarly danceable lines. The generically-packaged Album (1985) found Lydon adopting a more polished sound and enlisting the help of established industry names such as Bill Laswell, Ryuichi Sakamoto, Steve Vai and Ginger Baker; 1987's Happy embraced a dance-oriented approach fashioned with the production assistance of the Art of Noise's Gary Langan, while the 1989 release 9 moved the material even farther in this direction through the involvement of dance-pop producer Stephen Hague on many of the tracks. The band eventually returned to a rock sound with 1992's That What Is Not, but soon afterwards Lydon decided to suspend his involvement with the group in favor of other projects."
Time Zone aka. John Joseph Lydon aka. Johnny Rotten
Not only did Malcolm Mclaren have a role in hiphop Johnny Rotten did as well after the Sex Pistols. Johnny Rotten could not use his name when working with Afrika Bambaataa because Mclaren would not let him. Bambaataa was a major influence in the early stage of hiphop forming the might Zulu Nation. It is interesting to know not only did Mclaren play a role in hiphop but Rotten did as well.

drug dealers making the bare minimum
http://nortonbooks.typepad.com/everydaysociology/2008/06/the-economics-o.html
"The actual hourly wage earned by a gang’s foot soldier—the person on the street making the sales—ranged from $2.50 to $7.10 an hour (in 1995 dollars). That’s not much money at all. The gang leaders or “officers” did much better. They earned from $32 to $97 dollars an hour. These are data for one local gang. The central gang, which oversaw the local gangs much like a company would oversee its franchises, made substantially more money. As with a regular, legal corporation, the low-level workers of the gang did most of the work but the high-level members received most the pay"
We often think of the hollywood image of drug dealers making millions of dollars and living rockstar lifestyles. Most drug dealers able to get a real job do it for the popularity and adventure instead of the money. It is still an organized illegal business with guidelines and rules. If the rules are broken in this industry then the consequences are more severe. The real image of a drug dealer is a poor and tense worker instead of a flashy celebrity.

A fake profile that hides the mystery of who that person could be. A great example as to what people will do to show they are different from everyone else. Who is this person trying to portray? Are they a group of people? No one knows but he will be dancing at parties hoping to get people to go. Since the profile is public, and it's local in the Dfw area it may be interesting to study other peoples replies. To show the mystery of a possible fad or not.

Critic
Popular culture is studied because it is something relatable to the majority of people either in present time or past time. Potential threatening events such as Columbine maybe prevented if popular culture is studied because history has a habit of repeating itself. Studying popular culture is also great for economics to determine which trends are in style so business owners know what products to make and distribute. Popular culture should help people understand themselves to see if a certain part of popular culture is part of them, or if they are pretending to be a part of it. Popular culture helps people understand one another, and should help people become more tolerable to understanding something new before placing judgment upon it.
A critic should understand the background to whatever they are criticizing. They should be asking themselves who benefits the most from that aspect of popular culture, and the overall meaning behind whatever they saw or listened to. So they can understand why a person was deemed as a figure of that part of popular culture. To be a critic of popular culture is to be an unemotional sponge soaking everything up, but not allowing personal opinion or preference to cloud their judgment. Critics are in tune with their surroundings in popular culture able to distinguish in simple terms why something does not belong in that category while something else does. They should be in a constant mode of cross referencing putting thoughts together to either relate something to someone or to question something. Almost like a detective putting pieces of the puzzle together to state their case and reason. Relatable research should be presented whenever possible so everyone has an understanding of why it is being said.
I hope to understand the different points of views from people so I be more empathetic to a like or dislike. I want to be as fair as possible when making an assessment placing all arguments into an issue before coming to a conclusion. Also, I would like to understand what is considered popular culture and what is not based on statistics. Popular culture affects history and I would like to see more of its past and potential effects. I have always considered myself a people person able to relate with anyone on any level. Being a good critic will allow me connect with people a little better and make me a little more tolerable. There are a lot of parts of popular culture I do not like or understand, and I want to be able to find a common method in analyzing those parts. I want to look at an aspect of popular culture another way I have never thought to look at it. So I can see what other parts of popular culture clouded my thoughts keeping me from seeing that angle when I had first encountered it. Maybe I can find out how popular culture tricks me into believing in something I never thought I would believe in.
